Climalux simplifies the transition to LED lighting in 2027

SON-T lamps are being phased out and will soon no longer be permitted for sale due to stricter European regulations concerning the environment, toxic substances, and energy efficiency. Growers currently using these lamps are therefore required to switch to new LED lighting. In response, Climalux has developed a new power supply unit (PSU) that eliminates the need for any changes to existing (power) cabling.

Climalux has streamlined the replacement of SON-T lamps with LED alternatives by creating a ready-to-use solution. This system utilizes a single power supply per lamp, requiring no additional cabling, while preserving the key feature of the Climalux lamp: an integrated fan that cools the unit and provides adjustable vertical ventilation within the greenhouse.

The new PSU features a low inrush current and exceptionally high electrical efficiency. The unit is infinitely dimmable and allows for independent settings for work lighting and/or grow lighting. Because the hardware is not built into the lamp itself, the fixture retains its compact design, minimizing shading within the greenhouse. Furthermore, users enjoy flexibility in placement, with the option to connect multiple fixtures to a single PSU.

The power supplies and lamps are controlled by the Climalux HCUโ€”the core of the Climalux full-LED grow lighting system. Through the HLP protocol, the HCU can be integrated with horticultural climate computers from all major suppliers, including Ridder, Hoogendoorn, and Priva. Extremely high bell pepper yield of 47 kg per mยฒ due to artificial lighting

At a Climalux trial site, a yield of 47 kg of red bell peppers was achieved in 2025 on an area ofย โ€‹โ€‹40 mยฒ. It is expected that the yield on larger areas can be even higher, as the current status (week 13, 2025) has already yielded 20.5 kg.

Climalux Successfully Defends Invention of Vertical Ventilation Technology

Recently, Climalux successfully defended its inventionโ€”registered in a patent for the application of vertical ventilation to assimilation lampsโ€”in proceedings before the Netherlands Patent Office (OCNL). The validity of the patent was challenged in these proceedings.

ย In its advice, OCNL indicated that the concept of the invention, and in particular the use of vertical ventilation, can be considered novel and inventive. Thanks to this advice, Climalux retains a strong patent and can confidently take the next steps in the further growth and development of its innovative cultivation solutions.
