Extremely high bell pepper yield of 47 kg per m² due to artificial lighting

At a Climalux trial site, a yield of 47 kg of red bell peppers was achieved in 2025 on an area of 40 m². It is expected that the yield on larger areas can be even higher, as the current status (week 13, 2025) has already yielded 20.5 kg.

Using artificial lighting for bell peppers for year-round production is less straightforward compared to tomato cultivation, because bell peppers create a dominant fruit set that compromises growth.

Climalux has equipped the current bell pepper trial with a growth-promoting light spectrum, seeking the right ratio from a cultivation technical perspective to achieve a balanced plant load and growth.

A flexible spectrum is used so that plant efficiency takes priority and, in combination with other cultivation measures, can be worked towards stable growth, which should ultimately lead to stable production. The trial has shown that lighting for hours alone does not provide the desired result, but that the flexible use of spectrum and a flexible start time are part of the solution, and that pruning policy ensures an appropriate generative plant balance.

Additionally, Climalux uses air cooling, which optimizes energy efficiency. The trial investigates how to use this air cooling even more efficiently, in combination with energy input.

The bell pepper trial will continue in 2026/2027, and the aim is to advance the planting time by two weeks later this year to further increase production and optimize quality. For more information about the bell pepper trial, email info@climalux.nu or call 085 – 071 1020.

Climalux Successfully Defends Invention of Vertical Ventilation Technology

Recently, Climalux successfully defended its invention—registered in a patent for the application of vertical ventilation to assimilation lamps—in proceedings before the Netherlands Patent Office (OCNL). The validity of the patent was challenged in these proceedings.

In its advice, OCNL indicated that the concept of the invention, and in particular the use of vertical ventilation, can be considered novel and inventive. Thanks to this advice, Climalux retains a strong patent and can confidently take the next steps in the further growth and development of its innovative cultivation solutions.

Climalux using the Horti Lighting Protocol

The horti lighting protocols are designed to create a universal language for greenhouse equipment, particularly dimmable LED lighting and climate computers, enabling them to communicate in a plug-and-play manner. This standardizes communication, reduces implementation costs, and helps growers optimize their operations.
